Buff Monster "Legend of the Pink Cherry"

Los Angeles street artist Buff Monster scoops ups his latest body & editions of works entitled "Legend of the Pink Cherry". This will be Buff Monster's 5th solo show exhibition at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City and paintings in the main gallery are a homage to the last 11 years of Buff Monster's career. These pieces on the main floor portray a timeless epic tale of good vs. evil in proper Buff Monster fashion. While drawing on inspiration from Renaissance era paintings, Buff is able to combine his style of bright, animated, happy & bold imagery. With Heavy Metal, the color Pink & Japanese culture being the major influences in Buff Monster's work, these creamy concoctions are more character and figured based than before. This features a new direction for Buff, each acrylic on wood panel piece has been delicately rendered with an air brush and is a first for the artist.

Saturday April 14th, 2012 was opening reception to "Legend of the Pink Cherry" and was also a impromptu birthday celebration for Buff Monster as well. This might be the last time we see Buff Monster in Los Angeles for a while. After this exhibit, Buff Monster will be packing up and heading east to New York City for a new chapter in his life and works.

Below are selected shots from the gallery opening.

The upstairs gallery held an even greater treat for us as well as the 2nd half of his exhibit. This was the debut of his pet project which he has been working towards his entire art career: "The Melty Misfits". These are a set of 60 collectible trading cards that pay tribute to the Garbage Pail Kids of the 1980's. While keeping true to the originality of these past cards of the eighties, Buff made it a point to print these offset, while using custom paper stock, custom-mixed inks and will come in wax packages to make them as close as possible to their predecessor before. In addition to the release of these cards are 5"x7" paintings on watercolor paper with acrylic and airbrush that coincide with each card that was released. These trading cards were among the hot commodities that night, quickly selling out in a matter of hours in both single pack and box case. I was able to land only one single pack myself.
